Frequently Asked Questions

How do I validate a whole crontab file?

Paste the contents of your crontab into the linter. Every line is reported individually with its line number, so one broken entry never hides the rest of the file. Comments, blank lines, ENV assignments and @daily-style shorthands are all recognised.

What does the linter check on each line?

Each schedule line is validated field by field and reported with a plain-English description, the command it runs, and the next execution times in UTC. An invalid line names the specific field and value that is wrong, for example an hour of 99 or a malformed day-of-week.

Does the linter support @daily and other shorthands?

Yes. @reboot, @yearly, @annually, @monthly, @weekly, @daily, @midnight and @hourly are all explained in English, and the ones with a fixed schedule are expanded into their 5-field equivalent so upcoming run times can still be predicted.
